Regina Rejoices.jpg

A few weeks ago I shared the story of Regina (pictured above) rising strong – from rescued orphan in 2006 to high school graduate in 2018!  As I gaze upon the glorious photo of her rejoicing, almost to the point of taking flight with her graduation gown wings, I can’t help but think of the poem And Still I Rise by Maya Angelou,

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I’ll rise…

Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that’s wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.

Last Thursday, Regina and her classmates celebrated in the third and largest high school graduation ceremony at New Life Ministry, along the border of Darfur.  What a privilege you and I have to be a part of participating in the movement of love that allows Regina and the others to rise.  When we lift up the vulnerable through a global embrace of LUV, we see lives, communities, and nations transformed.

Each year we rejoice as more and more students advance through our anti-trafficking network’s education program into employment opportunities or university placement. Many of them are the first to be literate in their families.  Regina hopes to become a doctor and provide life-saving medical care to those without access in her community.  We are working hard to provide scholarships for these students to attend universities in South Sudan.  They are “the dream and the hope” that their ancestors, you and I, and the world has been waiting for.  They are the peacemakers and ambassadors of love in South Sudan.

Meet the 2018 Graduates and Peacemakers in South Sudan!
