Alia* is a resilient 10-year-old girl from a remote village in South Sudan. Life has not been easy for Alia and her family. With her father unable to find steady work and her mother having to leave in search of employment in Juba, Alia had to shoulder responsibilities beyond her years. As the eldest child, she often finds herself cooking for her younger siblings, striving to provide for them in their mother’s absence.
In 2023, Alia‘s father brought her to one of LUV’s anti-trafficking networks . This decision marked a turning point in Alia’s life. In LUV’s network, she found a place where she could pursue her education and be a child again. “I like mathematics,” Alia shares, her eyes lighting up with excitement when she talks about her favorite subject. Here, she is not alone; she has friends whom she loves to play with, finding moments of joy and laughter amidst the challenges.
LUV has become a sanctuary for Alia, offering not just education but a sense of community and support. It provides her with a safe environment to learn, play, and dream of a brighter future. Although Alia still carries many responsibilities at home, school gives her a chance to step into a world of possibilities, reminding her that she is not defined by her current circumstances.
With heartfelt gratitude, Alia thanks those who make LUV’s ministry possible. Her story is a powerful reminder of how education and support can transform lives, providing children like her with hope, opportunity, and a chance to envision a future where they can thrive and succeed. Through Lift Up the Vulnerable’s efforts, Alia and many others are finding the strength to overcome adversity and pursue their dreams.
