Happy LUV Day!
Today, let’s join together to do our little bit of good where we are and participate in Agape—all giving Love.
Let’s extend Love to those we pass on the street, work next to, cook meals with or for.
Let’s practice Love’s Abundance and dare to offer ourselves abundantly.
Thankfully it’s not about having the right A-B-C words to say, for if you and I speak “with power, revealing all God’s mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if we have faith that says to a mountain, ‘Jump,’ and it jumps, but we don’t love, we’re nothing.”
And surely, “if we put on a show and give everything we own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but we don’t love, we’ve gotten nowhere.”
As St Paul offers, “So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.”
That’s the great mystery of Love. When we give Love generously we are rich and overflowing! There is never a lack when there is Love. But, when we hoard and are afraid to risk or try to put boundaries on Love—we are poor, deprived… bankrupt and in need of the very thing we seek to ‘protect’.
“Unlove” destroys nations, families, and lives. It’s the root of exploitation. Trafficking. Genocide. Inequities. Racism. Prejudice. Resentments. We’ve lost our way and missed the point when we hoard riches and hoard ourselves at the expense of Love.
When we live generously, seek the very good for others and in others, lifting up the vulnerable, we enter the abundant life of Love. Our lives are always richer when we participate in Abundant Love… communities are richer too.
So today, the international day for LUV, let’s take small steps to practice an All Giving Love that never gives up.
We practice Love, we don’t perfect it. Stumbling around and getting it wrong is how we learn and lean deeper in. We dare to try again.
“Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always ‘me first,’
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.” (St Paul in a message he wrote to encourage his friends in Corinth)
May grace be yours and joy in the journey as you practice, extend, and begin to overflow with Love this day and all days. Because Love in Action is the only power that can transform this world—indeed, Love is the only power that ever has.
