As we approach Valentine’s Day, we embrace a tradition that has become deeply meaningful — celebrating not just a day, but an entire Month of LUV.
At Lift Up the Vulnerable, this month is rooted in a simple but powerful truth: real love shows up. It cares for those in need, protects the vulnerable, and meets people where they are — especially children, women, and communities impacted by war, poverty, and displacement.
Each February, we are reminded of agape love — the selfless, sacrificial love modeled by Jesus.
“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.” — 1 John 3:16
In war-torn communities like Sudan and South Sudan, hunger is not just a hardship — it’s a vulnerability. Food insecurity destabilizes families and increases risk of starvation or slavery in already fragile communities. That’s why food security is one of the strongest defenses against human trafficking.
- In Sudan, nearly 21 million people — almost half the population — are experiencing food insecurity.
- In South Sudan, more than 7 million people, or nearly 57% of the population, are facing crisis-level hunger.
This February, we’re raising $20,000 to help provide food for children facing unimaginable hardships. This goal moves us one step closer to meeting this year’s needs — and your generosity can help make it possible. Will you help us exceed our goal?
Through school nutrition programs and local farming, LUV meets immediate needs while helping communities build resilience that lasts. But there’s a critical moment before us.
At the beginning of each year, we must transport a full year’s worth of food and essential supplies to our three schools before the rainy season arrives. Once flooding begins, roads become impassable — and access to our schools is cut off.
