Tomorrow, we’ll celebrate LUV Day — a reminder that love is not just something we feel or talk about. It’s something we do.

Across the world, children and families are facing daily uncertainty because of war, poverty, and hunger. In places like Sudan and South Sudan, the absence of reliable food doesn’t just threaten health — it destabilizes families and increases vulnerability to exploitation. When basic needs go unmet, danger fills the gap.

That’s why, during this Month of LUV, our focus is simple and urgent: Fill the Truck with LUV

When Iris* was just one year old, she was abandoned by her parents as war spread through South Sudan and they fled to the refugee camps in Uganda — never to be heard from again. Iris’s grandmother took care of the infant at first but as they both grew older, there was simply not enough strength to find food and not enough food to sustain them.

Instead, young Iris was forced to work for her survival. It was during this time as a child laborer in different homes and farms in neighboring villages that she was also exposed to the dangers of walking long distances for water. During one of her trips, a man brutally assaulted her along the roadside — leaving her for dead. Last February, she was brought to LUV for help. Now, Iris is enrolled in school and has a safe place for her heart, mind, and body to heal, grow, and thrive.

Stories like Iris’s show us what prevention looks like in real life. When children are fed consistently, they can stay in school. When families have stability, vulnerability decreases. Food security creates safety.

Each year, before the rainy season begins, we must transport a full year’s worth of food and essential supplies to our three schools. Once the rains come, roads flood, access closes, and the opportunity to prepare is gone.

Right now, we are in that window.

This LUV Day, we’re inviting you to help us fill the truck with LUV — ensuring children have what they need long after February ends.

Here’s how your love can make a tangible difference:

  • $50 offers a month of meals and supplies
  • $600 feeds one child for an entire year
  • $1,500 provides a month of meals for an entire classroom

Every gift strengthens protection, supports education, and helps communities withstand the pressures that lead to exploitation.

1. Send a LUV Day card & gift to your Valentine:

Donate in honor of a loved one, and we’ll mail or e-mail them a Valentine card — sharing how your gift is making a real difference for vulnerable communities affected by war.

2. Start a fundRaiser:

Create a fundraiser and invite friends and family to be part of this effort. Together, you can help deliver food and essential supplies to children who need consistent care and nourishment.

Your generous one-time or monthly gift will equip local changemakers, address root causes of exploitation, and grow hope and resiliency in war-torn communities.
