Along the Sub-Saharan desert in Sudan, communities face ecological crises like water scarcity during drought or the annual dry season. Access to fresh, clean water remains extremely low for the majority of citizens. Women and children walk far distances to collect water from unclean sources. This leaves them vulnerable to physical harm, human trafficking, as well as invisible enemies causing water-borne diseases.
The anti-trafficking network spanning Sudan and South Sudan has been tackling water issues for the orphans and in the larger surrounding communities for years. Recently, due to a generous grant, Our Father’s Cleft (OFC) in the Nuba Mountains of Sudan received the opportunity to have access to fresh water on their compound.
Compounding the issue of water scarcity in places like Sudan is the reality that there are both scant resources to afford drilling plus the materials and few experts to drill the wells. It’s no small task to find a well driller with a rig willing to go to a warzone. But with a lot of prayer and perseverance, Ezekiel and Eugenio connected with Samaritan’s Purse amazing staff in Sudan. They stepped in and on their first attempt drilled deep enough to hit an aquifer which continues to flow clean and strong! The grant even provided solar power technology so that the water is now pumped throughout the compound. Ezekiel and everyone at OFC are tremendously proud and deeply thankful to have access to the resource of fresh, living, and life-giving water.
