We hope you are enjoying your summer! We’ve got three quick updates to share with you from our anti-trafficking network.
You’re Making an Impact
So far this year, 129 children vulnerable to exploitation have been rescued. LUV’s network is now providing protection through safe housing for 736 children, education for 1,446 students, and economic development for 402 local leaders.
As the year continues, we hope to do even more!
Current Needs: Effects of USAID Freeze and Cholera Outbreak in Sudan
Sudan continues to face devastating challenges — nearly 15 million people are displaced, 30 million are food insecure, and over 80% of the country’s healthcare system is closed or destroyed because of the war, and medical aid is not getting to the country. Diseases — including from drinking unclean water — are spreading quickly, and a cholera outbreak has now been declared. South Sudan is also monitoring rising cases.
A recent Washington Post investigation reveals how USAID cuts under the Trump administration have rapidly worsened Sudan’s crisis—shutting down soup kitchens, halting medical aid, and fueling deadly cholera outbreaks that have left many, especially children, to suffer.
As we work to equip our partners in the area at Our Father’s Cleft (OFC), we invite your prayers and participation in ensuring our local clinic and team on the ground have the resources they need to respond. Click here to help us meet the urgent and emerging needs in Sudan.
Goals Beyond the Field
Sudan and South Sudan are lands of paradox — where unimaginable hardship exists alongside unstoppable hope. As we highlight the critical need, we also celebrate the rising HOPE that’s made possible because of your support.
One of LUV’s anti-trafficking network partners, Hope For South Sudan, boys’ and girls’ soccer teams (pictured below) are having a stellar season. The Hope City football clubs play against other schools and club teams from around their state; the boys have an average record of 5 wins to 1 loss and the girls’ team has 3 wins and 0 losses. Both teams will head for the final tournament this month! You can find updates by following LUV on social media.
These teenagers were once children with no safe place to go.
Like Taban* and his younger sister Asunta who were two of the first orphans rescued at HFSS in 2008 — after their mother died in childbirth and their father died in the war. With nowhere to go for safety, they were vulnerable to being conscripted as child soldiers or trapped in forced labor. Instead, they were protected, educated, and empowered as changemakers!
Taban is a high school graduate (class of 2024!) and is in his first year of nursing school. Asunta has just started high school, and although she doesn’t play football, she excels as a leader in the church choir.
This is the power of prevention: when children are safe, they can thrive — learning, growing, and simply being kids. And it’s your support that makes it all possible.
*Taban is pictured in the boys’ team photo (left side) in the front row with the green shoes.
