Changemakers: From Compassion to Action
Investing in local leaders like James, Peter, and Salma is vital to our anti-trafficking work in warzones. Along with 176 local leaders, 23 paid interns, 18 farm leaders, and 231 contract workers, these men and women from Sudan and South Sudan are transforming lives and in 2024, they will create safe, supportive spaces for over 1,428 children and support an additional 3,584 family members.
Changemakers: From Struggle to Self-Sufficiency
Salma, a resilient 50-year-old woman from South Sudan, knows life’s hardships.
Her community, near the Ugandan border, is plagued by conflict and extreme poverty. Yet, despite these struggles, the area benefits from good rainfall, making it suitable for farming — a blessing that Salma has recently begun to fully embrace.

This year’s team includes Dr Kyle Hudgens, Dr Joan Perry, Tracy Sweatt, Maina Wahome, Eugenio Kirima (LUV’s CPO), and pastors Abrahama Ajega and John Mugo. They will work alongside LUV’s indigenous leaders in our anti-trafficking network including local nurses, nursing students, and an ecumenical group of pastors to offer much needed medical care. They have been prepping for months to provide a free medical clinic serving vulnerable communities in South Sudan.
