Life Inside Sudan’s Refugee Camps

“For all the kids you are not able to help, what is the real risk to them?... [so] the only choice for those children can be starvation or slavery...that’s a horrific choice, that’s no choice.”- Krishnan Guru-Murthy

This past Friday, a world-renowned documentary program from Channel 4 in the United Kingdom featured a critical story on the effects of conflict on the people of Sudan.

Presenter Krishnan Guru-Murthy, along with a small film team, travelled to the Nuba Mountains earlier this year to gain rare access to camps in Sudan — where millions of people are on the brink of starvation

While there, they met with Ezekiel Ayub, LUV’s indigenous director, serving at Our Father’s Cleft (OFC), and saw firsthand the lifesaving work you help us make possible.

Over the past twenty years, our mission has been to prevent human trafficking before it begins. We set out with two key goals in mind:

  1. To reach the children and women most vulnerable to trafficking and oppression, and
  2. To bring help to places where others would not go due to remoteness, danger, or lack of resources.

This vision led us to the war-torn regions of Sudan and South Sudan — countries ravaged by decades of violence and extreme poverty, where vulnerable people, especially children, are kidnapped as soldiers, exploited as child brides, sold into sex slavery, or trapped in forced labor.

In these countries, where infrastructure is minimal and poverty is widespread, LUV is not simply filling gaps — we are creating entirely new, sustainable structures to provide holistic care. Our focus is on physical, spiritual, and emotional restoration for those most at risk.

What stands out in this film is the vast disparity between life in the camps and life in our safe home and school program… highlighting that hope and healing are possible when we stand in the gap for those who are most vulnerable.

In 2024, you helped us recruit 52 children that were displaced by the war.  In 2025, we’ve been able to welcome in 51 more, including 13-year-old Ahmed and 7-year-old Shamia (featured in the video above).

How you can make a difference today:

  • Share this video and invite people to participate in lifting up the children of Sudan who face starvation and slavery. A gift of $30 can feed one child 3 nutritious meals for a whole month.

Your generous one-time or monthly gift will equip local changemakers, address root causes of exploitation, and grow hope and resiliency in war-torn communities.
